New Competency Exam Aims to Boost Industry Readiness and Employability

This standardized assessment has been launched on the directives of the prime minister and developed in collaboration with the Ministry of IT, the Pakistan Software Export Board, and PASHA. Its primary goal is to enhance the job readiness and professional skills of IT graduates across the country.

Students studying in the 7th and 8th semesters of disciplines such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science are eligible to appear in the test without any examination fee.

Candidates who perform well will be awarded a joint certificate issued by HEC, PSEB, and PASHA. Their profiles will also be added to a national talent database that can be accessed by both local and international employers seeking skilled IT professionals.

In addition to certification, successful students will receive one academic credit and will be given preference for internships, apprenticeships, and opportunities to pursue international professional certifications.

HEC has instructed universities to ensure complete student participation, as the test results will be used for national-level institutional evaluation. Universities will be ranked based on student performance, and institutions that fail to register eligible students or nominate focal persons by February 6, 2026, may be placed in the lowest performance category.
