Parents Demand Govt Oversight of Private School Fees

Parents Demand Govt Oversight of Private School Fees

Parents across Rawalpindi and Islamabad are appealing to Prime Minister and Punjab Chief Minister to take immediate action in regulating the fees of private schools. They argue that, due to a lack of accountability, these institutions are financially burdening families. The students can get the latest updates of Parents Call for Government Oversight of Private School Fees.

Rising expenses—ranging from admission and security deposits to monthly tuition, lab charges, health fees, ID issuance, and even charges for changing grades—have made private schooling unaffordable for middle-income families. Parents say that without strict government monitoring, private schools are exploiting families with unchecked cost increases.

A concerned parent pointed out that even schools that waive admission fees compensate by imposing excessively high monthly charges. With limited access to federal schools and concerns over the poor quality of public education in Punjab, families feel they have no viable alternatives for their children’s learning.

Families in Rawalpindi and Islamabad Demand Fair Regulation of Educational Costs

The Private School Parents Association, with backing from civil society organizations, has led protests to push for transparent regulation of school fee policies. "Parents are treated like ATMs," said Tasleem Satti, who criticized the mandatory purchase of expensive school supplies from approved vendors and the inaction of regulatory bodies like PEIRA and CADD.

Another parent, Asma Saeed, expressed outrage over arbitrary annual fee increases and accused school operators of forming a profit-driven cartel. She condemned the hidden charges for books and materials, which she believes are strategically designed to drain family finances.

Concerns have also emerged over some private colleges demanding early payment for the next academic year before current exams are completed or roll numbers issued. This has left many parents stressed and feeling coerced into advance payments without clarity about their childrens academic progress, with no mid-year transfer options available.

Parents have proposed several reforms: regulating tuition fees, offering full transparency on yearly costs, allowing parents to buy uniforms and supplies from any store, removing hidden charges, and introducing diverse fee payment methods like cheques and credit cards.

While some school administrators acknowledged the financial strain faced by families, they also highlighted the operational costs of running quality institutions. However, many parents remain dissatisfied, questioning where they can turn when neither public nor private schools provide affordable, quality education.
