HEC Releases Updated List of Recognised MS & PhD Programmes

Islamabad, September 1, 2025: The Higher Education Commission HEC of Pakistan has released an updated list of recognised MS/MPhil Level 7 and PhD Level 8 programmes on its official website. The list can be accessed at www.hec.gov.pk/site/MS-MPhil-PhD. This step ensures that students and institutions can easily verify the authenticity and approval status of graduate and doctoral programmes. Training Sessions for HEIs on PQR

Recently, HEC conducted nationwide training sessions for focal persons of higher education institutions HEIs to enhance their understanding of the Pakistan Qualification Register PQR. The sessions aimed to improve the accuracy and completeness of qualifications data, which is vital for degree attestation and verification purposes. HEC highlighted the significance of PQR as a centralised and reliable database aligned with the National Qualifications Framework NQF.

Role of HEIs and PQR Focal Persons

HEIs were instructed to ensure complete entry of each programme into the PQR system and secure necessary approvals from statutory bodies. These sessions emphasised the key role of PQR focal persons as the main link between universities and HEC. Their responsibilities include resolving verification challenges and maintaining transparency by ensuring accurate programme information in the database.

Updated Lists to Assist Students

After the training, HEIs verified their PQR data, and HEC has now published updated lists on its website. These lists are publicly available and aim to assist students in selecting approved and active programmes. Prospective applicants are strongly advised to review the PQR List and the NOC Issued List before applying to avoid enrolling in unrecognised programmes, as degrees from such programmes will not be attested.

Importance of PQR for Transparency and Trust

The Pakistan Qualification Register PQR is an official repository of HEC-recognised academic programmes offered by Pakistani HEIs. It provides information on programme status active, suspended, or closed and maps them according to NQF levels. By streamlining verification and recognition processes, the PQR safeguards students from unapproved programmes, assists universities in maintaining updated records, and strengthens transparency and public trust in Pakistan’s higher education system.
