Sindh High Court Approves Resumption of Teacher Recruitment

Government Advocates for Recruitment

The Sindh government had contested the prolonged restriction, asserting that the ban had severely disrupted the education system. Officials argued that the inability to hire teachers diminished the quality of education and hindered the effective operation of schools. They urged the court to allow the recruitment of primary school teachers PST and junior elementary school teachers JEST to enhance educational standards.

Background of the Stay Order

The recruitment freeze originated from petitions challenging the fairness of the teacher hiring policy. Critics alleged that the policy discriminated against candidates from different regions by setting lower passing marks for applicants in certain areas. This sparked concerns about equity and transparency in the selection process, leading to the court-imposed stay order.

Landmark Decision by Constitutional Bench

In its first ruling since its establishment, the SHC’s constitutional bench overturned the stay order. The decision permits the Sindh government to proceed with teacher appointments across the province, paving the way for addressing the teacher shortage and revitalizing the education sector.

Moving Forward

With the ban now lifted, the Sindh government is expected to expedite the recruitment process, focusing on filling gaps in schools and improving access to quality education. This decision marks a significant step toward strengthening the province’s educational framework.
