Education Department Orders Immediate End to Illegal Enrollment Cancellations

According to an official notification issued by the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh, Additional Registrar Prof. Rafia Mallah stated that several complaints were received regarding schools affiliated with Cambridge International Examinations through the British Council Pakistan.

The complaints revealed that certain institutions stop students from appearing in exams as regular candidates, often giving reasons such as low attendance or unsatisfactory internal assessment results. Despite this, the schools continue to collect full tuition fees for the entire academic year.

The circular highlighted that after charging fees, these schools pressure students to register as private candidates without valid justification. The education department described this practice as harmful, noting that it negatively affects students both academically and mentally.

The department further clarified that under the Sindh Private Educational Institutions Regulation and Control Rules, 2005, private schools are not allowed to introduce or enforce admission or continuation policies without prior approval from the directorate. Any such policy implemented without authorization is considered illegal and holds no legal value.

It was also emphasized that poor academic performance should be the responsibility of school management and teachers. Schools are required to offer proper teaching, continuous academic supervision, and additional support to struggling students instead of taking punitive measures.

Finally, the Directorate directed all concerned schools to immediately discontinue this practice and warned that strict legal action would be taken against institutions found violating the rules.
