HEC Higher Education Aptitude Test HAT 2026 for Graduate Admissions
The Higher Education Commission HEC has officially opened the registration portal for the HEC Admissions 2026 cycle via the Higher Education Aptitude Test HAT. Conducted by the Education Testing Council ETC, the HAT is a prerequisite for students seeking admission into MS/M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs across public and private Pakistani universities. This standardized assessment is designed to ensure that candidates possess the necessary verbal, analytical, and quantitative reasoning skills for advanced research.
The HAT is not only mandatory for university entrance but also serves as the primary evaluation tool for the award of various HEC scholarships. Whether a candidate is pursuing a doctorate in Engineering or a Master’s in BS Computer Science via graduate pathways, the HAT score is valid for two years, providing a significant advantage in academic planning.
Programs Offered HAT Categories
The HAT is divided into five specialized categories based on 16 years of education. Candidates can explore these HEC Courses 2026 graduate pathways:
- HAT 1: For Engineering & Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics.
- HAT 2: For Management Sciences and Business Education.
- HAT 3: For Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Psychology, and Law.
- HAT 4: For Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Biological & Medical Sciences, and Media Studies.
- HAT-General: Specifically for Religious Studies Madrasa Graduates.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admissions 2026 graduate programs, applicants must:
- Be interested in MS/M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in accepting Pakistani universities.
- Have already applied for graduate admission or HEC scholarships via the E-portal.
- Intend to apply for future HEC scholarships.

- Online Registration Portal Open: Sunday, March 15, 2026.
- Last Date for Registration: Monday, March 30, 2026 24:00 hours.
- Test Date: Sunday, April 19, 2026.
Scholarship and Scoring Details
- Qualifying Score: A score of 50 out of 100 is considered a qualifying result.
- Validity: HAT test scores remain valid for two 02 years for both admissions and scholarships.
- Question Breakup: The test includes English/Verbal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning in varying percentages per category.
