Rawalpindi Asghar Mall College Gains National Heritage Status
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi has announced that Government Graduate College Asghar Mall, Rawalpindi, has officially been declared a national heritage site due to its long-standing historical, academic, and cultural value. The students can get the latest updates of Rawalpindi’s Asghar Mall College Gains National Heritage Status.
Speaking at a special gathering held at the college, the minister said that a formal ceremony would soon take place to mark the conferment of heritage status. He described the institution as a symbol of learning and moral values, highlighting its role in preserving Pakistan’s cultural identity, and referred to students as the backbone of the country’s future.
Government Graduate College Recognized for Historical and Cultural Importance
The minister recalled Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s guidance to students and emphasized that education is vital for national development. He encouraged students to represent Pakistan positively on international platforms and serve as cultural ambassadors of the country.
He also invited the college administration to collaborate with cultural organizations under his ministry through formal agreements, assuring them of complete support. According to him, the college would be able to use the ministry’s platforms without any charges to promote academic and cultural initiatives.
College Principal Professor Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Khan Khichi shared that archaeology classes have recently been introduced at the institution, calling it a unique and forward-looking step at the college level. In response, the minister assured full assistance from the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums.
The historic college building, which is 113 years old and was constructed in 1913, represents the rich educational and cultural heritage of the Potohar region. The institution began its journey as Sanatana Dharma High School in 1903 and was elevated to college status in 1948, making it the first public-sector college in the Potohar area.
