Punjab Revises School Timings as Smog Levels Improve
Punjab has adjusted school schedules following a notable improvement in air quality. Effective December 4, 2024, schools will now start at 8:15 a.m., according to Souce. The students can get latest updates of Punjab Revises School Timings as Smog Levels Improve.
Temporary Change Due to Smog Crisis
The government had previously delayed school start times to 8:45 a.m. on November 18 as a measure to address worsening smog conditions. The revised timings were intended to minimize the adverse effects of air pollution on students and teachers.
Resumption of Standard Hours
With a decline in smog levels, the Environmental Protection Agency EPA Punjab has reinstated regular school hours. A formal notification under the Environmental Protection Act of 1997 mandates all public and private schools in the province to open at 8:15 a.m. starting December 4.
Compliance and Enforcement
Director-General of Environment Imran Hamed Sheikh emphasized that strict legal action, including fines and penalties, will be imposed on schools that fail to adhere to the new schedule. Commissioners and deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure compliance throughout the province.

The revised school timings aim to safeguard the health of students and teachers while maintaining uninterrupted educational activities. This decision reflects the governments commitment to mitigating the impact of environmental challenges on public welfare.
