New Grading System for Matric and Inter Delayed to 2026

New Grading System for Matric and Inter Delayed to 2026

The nationwide implementation of Pakistan’s new grading structure for Matric SSC and Intermediate HSC exams has been officially deferred until 2026. This revised policy, originally planned for the Annual Examinations 2025, will now come into effect starting with the Annual Exams 2026. The students can get detailed updates of New Grading System for Matric and Inter Delayed to 2026.

Nationwide Rollout of GPA-Based Evaluation Now Set for Next Academic Year

A formal notification confirming the delay was issued recently. Initially, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen IBCC had unveiled the new evaluation system, which was followed by an October 15, 2024, directive from the Sindh government announcing the same changes for the 2025 exam cycle. However, a subsequent notice issued by the Sindh Universities and Boards Department, referencing both the October 2024 and June 18, 2025 notifications, has now clearly stated that the transition will take place a year later.

Overview of the Revised Grading Scale

The updated grading policy introduces a more detailed and GPA-oriented framework, aimed at replacing the conventional pass/fail approach. The new grade classifications are as follows:

  • A++ Exceptional: 95% to 100% – GPA 5.0
  • A+ Outstanding: 90% to 94%
  • A Excellent: 85% to 89%
  • B++ Very Good: 80% to 84%
  • B+ Good: 75% to 79%
  • B Fairly Good: 70% to 74%
  • C Above Average: 60% to 69%
  • D Average: 50% to 59%
  • E Below Average: 40% to 49%

Students scoring below 40% will not be classified as "fail." Instead, their result will be marked as “Unsatisfactory”, aligning with the policy’s effort to reduce the stigma associated with failure.

Initially, the system will be introduced for ninth and eleventh-grade students, with results shown in Grade Points GP. Later phases will transition to full Grade Point Average GPA reporting.

This new policy reflects a broader push to modernize Pakistan’s educational assessment by adopting more nuanced, internationally-aligned grading practices that emphasize performance differentiation over binary outcomes.
