President Alvi Advocates for Universal Education Access on World Education Day




Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training commemorated World Education Day at the National Library, focusing on the theme "learning for lasting peace." President Dr. Arif Alvi, serving as the chief guest, used the occasion to emphasize the urgent need for the enrollment of approximately 26 million out-of-school children in the country. Presidents Call to Action:

During his address, President Alvi proposed implementing bold measures, including declaring an education emergency, introducing double shifts in educational institutions, and utilizing mosques for teaching purposes. He also suggested the creation of a mechanism to engage recent graduates and intermediate students in teaching out-of-school children, with the incentive of a stipend.


Stalls and Initiatives:

Various organizations set up stalls at the event venue, with President Alvi visiting the one organized by the Basic Education and Community Schools BECS. During the visit, DG Niazi briefed the President on both ongoing and planned programs aimed at enrolling out-of-school children. Notably, over 12,000 out-of-school children have already been enrolled in Islamabad. President Alvi commended BECS for its commendable efforts and encouraged the initiation of similar initiatives.

Among the distinguished attendees at the event were Federal Education Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, Director General of BECS Hameed Khan Niazi, Director General of Pakistan Institute of Education Dr. Muhammad Shahid Saroya, President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ahsan Bakhtawari, and representatives from USAID, UNICEF, UNECSO, and JAICA.


The World Education Day celebration served as a platform for President Alvi to champion the cause of universal education access, urging collaborative efforts from various sectors to address the pressing issue of out-of-school children in the country.
