KP Enforces Mandatory Pashto Education in Schools
The Office of the District Education Officer Male, Nowshera, has released an official directive instructing all concerned government schools to strictly implement the teaching of Pashto as a subject. The notice emphasizes that Pashto is a compulsory subject up to the intermediate second year level across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Directive Issued for Implementation of Pashto as a Compulsory Subject
This directive has been sent to the principals and headmasters of government high, higher secondary, and middle schools, including GHSS, GHS, and GMS, as well as Sub-Divisional Education Officers in the areas of Pabbi, Nowshera, and Jahangira. The notification refers to earlier communications issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, which outlined the province-wide policy for introducing and continuing Pashto education in government institutions.
According to the instructions, school heads must ensure that Pashto is being properly taught at all required class levels. The notice clearly warns that failure to comply with this policy may result in accountability measures, and both the head of the institution and the relevant education officials could face consequences for any lapses.
This step reflects the government’s intent to more firmly enforce the existing policy regarding regional language education and to ensure consistent implementation of Pashto as a mandatory subject in public schools throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
