Kennedy-Lugar USA Scholarship Opportunity for Pakistani Students

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study YES Program offers fully funded scholarships to Pakistani students in Matric and O-Levels, allowing them to study in American high schools and live with host families in the USA for a year. Funded by the U.S. government, this program is available to secondary school students from 39 countries. Since its inception in 2003, the YES program has granted scholarships to over 1,270 Pakistani students, giving them the opportunity to experience American education and culture through direct interaction with American peers. Eligibility Criteria for the YES Program

To be eligible for the YES Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be Pakistani citizens currently residing in Pakistan

Be enrolled in 9th or 10th grade, or be O-Level students students in 11th grade of O-Levels are not eligible

Be between 15 and 17 years of age by August 15, 2025

Have scored a minimum of 60% in core subjects English, Mathematics, Sciences in their last examination and maintain an overall average of 60% for the last three years

Be able to communicate in English, having secured at least 60% marks in English in the past three years

Have no prior travel history to the United States

Additionally, students must achieve a minimum of 60% marks in all subjects in the examination held prior to their departure for the USA. They will be required to submit their mark sheets when available.

Additional Requirements for Final Selection

Students who meet the basic eligibility criteria and excel in the following areas are more likely to be shortlisted for the final selection:

Pass the YES Program Entry Test

Have a strong understanding and practice of Pakistani culture, and be able to represent it well in U.S. schools

Demonstrate maturity, adaptability, flexibility, good character, and academic potential

Be willing to integrate into the daily life of their American host family

Have proof of all required immunizations as per the YES Final Application guidelines

Show a commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding

Commit to attending classes as a full-time student in the U.S. and maintain at least a B grade average

Abide by the YES Program rules and U.S. J-1 visa requirements

Application Process for the YES Program

Preliminary Application

Students who meet the eligibility criteria and agree to the Parent-Student Agreement and Program Rules can apply by downloading the Preliminary Application from official website and sending it via courier to the SIE office. The program encourages female students, students with physical disabilities, and those from government or non-elite schools to apply. If a student’s school is not involved in forwarding applications, the student can submit the application independently.

Entry Test

Shortlisted applicants, based on the Preliminary Application, will be notified of their orientation and Entry Test dates through email or letters. It is crucial that students provide accurate contact information to avoid any issues.

Interview and Group Activities

Students who pass the Entry Test will be invited for interviews and group activities. They must complete the YES Final Application which will be attached to their notification letter and bring it with all required documents on the interview day.

Standardized English Language Test

Following the interviews, shortlisted students will be required to take a standardized English language test for international students.

Final Selection

Final selection is based on performance in the Entry Test, interviews, and the completion of the YES Final Application. Successful candidates will be informed through an official letter along with a Scholarship Acceptance form.
