Karachi Medical and Dental College KMDC has recently announced a substantial increase of over 150 percent in the fees for its MBBS and BDS programs. This decision, sanctioned by the KMDCs governing body led by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, also introduces new fee structures. Official Confirmation of Fee Hike:

Dr. Nargis Anjum, the principal of KMDC, has issued an official notification confirming the fee hike. The decision has been made following the approval of the KMDC’s governing body. The significant adjustments in fees apply to various categories, impacting both open merit and self-finance seats.


Details of Fee Increase:

According to the notification, the open merit admission fee has been raised by Rs.30,000 to Rs.50,000. The tuition and library fees have seen a considerable surge from Rs.50,000 to Rs.117,600 and Rs.3,500 to Rs.10,000, respectively. Additionally, the student activity/social fee has increased to Rs.10,000 from Rs.8,000.


Introduction of New Fees:

The institution has introduced several new fees, including a development charges fee of Rs.30,000, a laboratory fee of Rs.10,000, and an IT fee of Rs.5,000. These additional fees contribute to the overall cost of pursuing education at KMDC.


Massive Increase in Merit Seat and Self-Finance Seat Fees:

The merit seat fee has experienced a substantial surge, reaching Rs.268,600, compared to Rs.101,500 in the previous year. Similarly, the self-finance section has witnessed a noteworthy increase, with the admission fee escalating from Rs.20,000 to Rs.100,000.


Doubling of Tuition Fees and Other Adjustments:

The tuition fee has undergone a 100% increase, soaring from Rs.600,000 to Rs.1.2 million. The transport fee has been raised from Rs.20,000 to Rs.36,000. Furthermore, the self-finance seat, which was Rs.651,500 last year, has seen a substantial hike, now reaching Rs.1,421,000. These adjustments significantly impact the financial burden on students pursuing medical and dental education at KMDC.
