13-Year-Old Karachi Boy Achieves Top Results in O-Level Exams

A young student from Karachi has drawn nationwide attention by delivering an exceptional performance in the Cambridge O-Level examinations at the age of just 13. Syed Muhammad Abeer, who belongs to North Nazimabad, has become the youngest candidate in Sindh to secure A grades after appearing in the Computer Science group. Despite his early age, Abeer earned A grades in both Islamic Studies and Computer Science. With this achievement, he stands as Sindh’s first and Pakistan’s second youngest student to reach this academic . Earlier, in 2022, Ali Saif set a national record by becoming the first 13-year-old in Pakistan to obtain an A grade in O-Level exams.

Abeer’s father, Kamran, shared that his son is the first student from Karachi and Sindh to score an A grade in O-Level Computer Science at such a young age, noting that the previous youngest achiever in this subject belonged to Lahore. He explained that during the COVID-19 period, when Abeer was in grade two, the family decided to withdraw him from school to avoid disruptions in learning rather than due to financial concerns.

For four years, Abeer continued his education through homeschooling before enrolling in grade seven to formally prepare for the O-Level examinations. Inspired by Ali Saif’s success in 2022, Kamran motivated his son to aim for a similar goal and arranged home-based O-Level preparation.

Abeer developed a keen interest in computer science early on by watching his father work on programming and coding tasks at home. According to Kamran, Abeer did not join any tuition centers; instead, he prepared using ChatGPT, educational content on YouTube, and direct guidance from his father.

Explaining the decision to opt for the Cambridge system, Kamran said that local education boards in Karachi and Sindh often do not provide fair recognition to exceptionally talented students. He added that the family plans to send Abeer abroad for higher education in the future.

He also highlighted the important role played by Abeer’s mother, who ensured a disciplined daily routine and a consistent study schedule at home, which greatly contributed to his success. Kamran said he will continue mentoring his son in programming and hopes Abeer will build a professional career in computer science.

Sharing advice for other parents, Kamran suggested that home-based O-Level preparation, when supported by modern digital learning tools, can significantly lower expenses while still producing excellent academic outcomes.

According to Cambridge Board statistics, around 220,000 students from 128 countries appeared in the O-Level examinations in 2025, with an overall pass rate of approximately 87 percent.
