AERC-UOK Admissions 2025 MS/MPhil and PhD Programmes
The Applied Economics Research Centre AERC, recognized as an Institution of National Capability in Applied Economics, University of Karachi, announces admissions for its MS/MPhil and PhD Programmes Morning Session for the academic year 2026-27. The admissions process is strictly based on the principles of equal opportunity and pure merit.
PhD Programme Eligibility
Candidates are eligible to apply for the PhD programme if they:
Hold an MPhil degree in Economics from an HEC-recognized university, OR
Possess an MPhil/MS Economics degree from a reputed foreign university, OR
Have an equivalent degree, accompanied by an equivalency certificate issued by the University of Karachi.
Classes for the PhD programme coursework will be conducted on weekends to accommodate working professionals.
MS/MPhil Programme Eligibility
Applicants must have:
Sixteen 16 years of education in any discipline or a related equivalent degree from an HEC-recognized university or institution.
Applicants with degrees other than those awarded by public sector universities of Pakistan must provide an Equivalence Certificate from the University of Karachi.
Candidates awaiting final exam results may also apply, at their own risk, but must submit their final transcript before the commencement of the 2nd quarter.
Admission Test & Selection
Eligible candidates are required to qualify an admission test. Sample test papers are available on AERC’s website. Alternatively, scores from the following may be accepted in lieu of the admission test:
GAT Subject conducted by NTS
GRE Advanced Economics taken within the last two years
MS/MPhil Test Schedule:
Admission Test: January 26, 2026 @ 10:30 am
Interviews: January 28, 2026
PhD Test Schedule:
Admission Test: February 01, 2026 @ 10:00 am
Interviews: February 08, 2026
Test Centre:
Applied Economics Research Centre, University of Karachi, Karachi
Candidates from other cities can appear for the online admission test on the same date and time.
Fee and Scholarships
All students are required to pay monthly tuition fees.
Selected MS/MPhil students may be eligible for scholarships based on academic performance and financial need.
