Young Researchers Introduce Practical Medical Technologies

While Pakistan often struggles to keep pace with scientific advancements, these young innovators have blended modern research, user-friendly technology, and environmental responsibility to produce affordable and practical medical solutions.

Anti-Depressant Goggles

Students Neha Shah and Javeria Latif developed therapeutic goggles that combine visual, sound, and aroma therapy to support individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, and issues. The design features blue light therapy, lavender essential oils, and Bluetooth connectivity for calming audio. Early testing suggests users experienced up to a 70 percent improvement in mood and patterns. The device costs approximately Rs. 3,500 and can run for two days on a single charge.

Sip Dose: Smart Medicine Straw

Another team introduced “Sip Dose,” a preloaded smart straw that delivers an accurate dose of liquid medicine. It assists children, older patients, and individuals with tremors or vision challenges in taking medication safely. The straw includes Braille instructions, a QR code for digital reminders, and is produced using 50 percent biodegradable and fully recyclable materials.

Smart Medicine Dispenser

A group led by Arisha Ateeq designed a Smart Medicine Dispenser aimed at preventing overdose and misuse of medications such as antidepressants and tranquilizers. Pharmacists can set dosage schedules, and the device dispenses medicine only at the programmed time, using green and red LED indicators to guide the user. Priced at around Rs. 2,000, it serves as a helpful tool for elderly patients, individuals with Alzheimer’s, and those receiving psychiatric care. The team plans to seek formal approval from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
