Faculty Boycott Intensifies Dispute Over Unpaid Dues at KU

The protest was announced earlier by the Karachi University Teachers’ Society KUTS, which claimed that the university administration had failed to resolve long-standing financial issues faced by teachers.

According to reports, a majority of teachers participated in the boycott due to pending payments related to evening classes, paper marking, exams duties, paper preparation, vigilance responsibilities, house ceiling claims, and leave encashment.

Faculty members stated that the continuous rise in fuel prices and overall living expenses had added to their financial burden. They also pointed out that retired teachers and non-teaching employees were still waiting for their outstanding payments.

KUTS President Syed Ghufran Alam said the protest was launched because the administration had repeatedly ignored the concerns raised by the teachers despite several reminders.

He further stated that Karachi University was currently facing a financial shortfall of Rs. 1.3 billion and urged Syed Murad Ali Shah to initiate an inquiry into the financial situation to ensure transparency and accountability.

According to Alam, the teachers will continue their boycott of semester exams, while future protest plans will be discussed during the KUTS general body meeting scheduled for Thursday.
