Sindh Announces Major Academic Reforms & Syllabus Reduction

Sindh Education Department has introduced significant changes to the academic calendar, announcing that the 2025 academic year will commence on April 1. To ease the transition, the syllabus for the current 2024 session has been reduced by 25%. Key Updates to Exams and Admissions

Examinations:

Annual exams for matriculation, intermediate, and classes 1–8 will cover only 75% of the syllabus.
Exams for grades 4–8 are scheduled from March 1 to March 15.
Matriculation exams will begin on March 15, followed by intermediate exams starting April 15.

Admissions:

Admissions for class 9 will run from March 1 to March 31, with classes commencing on April 1.
The central admission committee will handle first-year intermediate admissions beginning June 1.

Result Announcements:

Matric results are expected by July 15, and intermediate results by August 15.
Results for grades 9 and 11 will follow within 60 days of the respective matriculation and intermediate results.

Holidays:

Summer break will last from June 1 to July 31.
Winter holidays have been revised to December 22–31.

Meeting and Implementation Details

The reforms were formalized during a steering committee sub-committee meeting held in late November. The decision to shift the academic session from August 1 to April 1 was accompanied by a 25% syllabus reduction to support students and educators during the transition. Key participants included the Secretary of College Education, Secretary of Universities and Boards, representatives of Karachi and Mirpurkhas boards, and private school officials.

To ensure timely communication, the Directorate of Curriculum, Assessment, and Research DCAAR will finalize and distribute the revised syllabus by December 15. This will provide sufficient preparation time for students, teachers, and examination boards.

College and University Alignments

For college, the 2025 academic session will begin on August 1. The steering committee emphasized aligning the academic calendar with university schedules, as many scholarship programs are announced in August. This adjustment aims to preserve academic and scholarship opportunities for students.
