No Fees for Cambridge Program in Islamabad Schools

Starting in April 2024, the federal government will roll out the highly anticipated Cambridge Education System in four government-run schools and colleges located in Islamabad. This major educational reform, led by the Ministry of Education, aims to provide world-class education without charging any fees to students enrolled in these institutions.
Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed his enthusiasm, calling this initiative a significant step forward for improving educational standards in Pakistan. He stressed that the project would have a far-reaching impact on the quality of education offered to students across the country.
Teacher Training and Enrollment Process
According to Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, teacher training for the Cambridge system will commence within the next 10 days. The first phase of enrollment will target Grade 6 students, who will be able to take part in the Cambridge curriculum as part of this educational shift.
“There is a clear plan in place, and we are eager to provide a globally competitive educational experience to our students,” said Wani.
Expanding the Initiative by 2026-27
In addition to the initial rollout, the Cambridge program is expected to expand to more institutions by the 2026-27 academic year. As part of the initiative, there will be no fees for students until they sit for their O-level exams, and textbooks will be provided free of charge.
Partnership with Cambridge University Press and Assessment
The Ministry of Education has entered into a strategic partnership with Cambridge University Press and Assessment to bring this ambitious project to life. Rod Smith, the Group Managing Director of Cambridge International Education, attended the signing ceremony and reiterated Cambridge’s commitment to delivering high-quality education in Pakistan.
“This collaboration marks a new era for education in Pakistan, giving students the tools they need to succeed globally,” Smith remarked.
Selected Schools and Colleges
The Cambridge curriculum will initially be offered in the following government schools and colleges in Islamabad:
- Islamabad Model College for Boys F-6/2
- Islamabad Model College for Girls G-6/3
- Islamabad Model College for Girls F-8/1
- Islamabad Model College for Boys F-8/3
A Dual Education System
It has been confirmed that while the Cambridge curriculum will be introduced, the local education systems will continue to operate alongside it. Officials expect that this development will draw students from private schools, who may prefer the Cambridge qualification due to its global recognition and academic prestige.
This initiative is expected to raise the bar for education standards in Pakistan and provide students with the tools they need to succeed on the world stage.
