NED University Announces 2026 Admissions and Seat Increase
The NED University Karachi has officially greenlit its admissions cycle for the academic year 2026-27, introducing significant changes to its seat allocation and fee structure. In a move to accommodate the growing number of engineering aspirants, the university has increased its total intake capacity from 3,016 to 3,156 seats. This 140-seat increase is strategically distributed across various boards, with the Karachi Board receiving 16 additional slots and A-Level candidates gaining 6 more spots.
Key Dates for the 2026 Academic Cycle
According to the Registrar, Dr. Ghazanfar Hussain, the formal admission process is set to commence on March 30, 2026. Prospective students should mark their calendars for the following undergraduate milestones:
- Registration Start Date: March 30, 2026
- Fall Semester 2026 Registration: August 10, 2026
- Commencement of Classes: August 17, 2026
- Mid-Term Examinations: October 5–9, 2026
The university is also expanding its academic footprint at the Thar Campus, where two new programs—BS English and BS Management Sciences—are being introduced this year.
Revised Fee Structure and Merit Shifts
While the increase in seats is welcome news, the Finance Committee has recommended a nearly 10% hike in fees. The standard semester fee is expected to rise to PKR 57,000. Additionally, the university has slightly reduced the local self-finance quota by 5 seats, reallocating those spots to the open merit category in high-demand fields like Computer and Electrical Engineering.
