Medical and Dental Colleges Stops from Filling Vacant Seats

The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council PMDC has issued a firm directive to all medical and dental colleges, prohibiting them from independently admitting students to fill vacant seats. In a circular addressed to college principals, PMDC Registrar Dr. Shaista clarified that all admissions must be managed by designated admitting universities, in full compliance with Section 175 of the PMDC Act, 2022. The students can get fresh updates that PMDC Bars Colleges from Independently Filling Vacant Seats in Medical & Dental Programs.

Admitting Universities to Handle Vacant Seat Admissions

As per the instructions, it is the responsibility of the admitting universities in each province or region to conduct and supervise the admission process. Dr. Shaista stressed that any admissions granted under the PMDC amnesty scheme would only be officially recognized if processed through the authorized admitting university, ensuring transparency and uniformity.

Revised Merit Criteria for Private College Admissions

In a recent development, PMDC revised the merit policy concerning vacant seats in private medical and dental institutions. The minimum qualifying scores for the MDCAT have been reduced—now set at 50% for MBBS aspirants and 45% for those applying to BDS programs. This move aims to fill unoccupied seats while maintaining regulated entry standards.

Sindh Admissions to Be Managed by Single University

For the province of Sindh, Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro has been designated as the only university permitted to carry out the admission process for vacant seats. Students applying through this channel are required to pay an admission fee of Rs. 4,500, along with an additional Rs. 7,000 charged by the testing agency responsible for conducting the entry exam.

Strict Enforcement Ensured by PMDC

The PMDC has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing centralized admission regulations across the country. Institutions found violating these guidelines risk having their admissions declared invalid. Colleges have been urged to adhere strictly to the new instructions to ensure fairness, merit, and legal compliance in medical and dental education.
