KP CM Announces Major Increase in Student Scholarship Fund

The 10th Senate meeting of the University of Swat took place on Monday, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur. The session was also attended by Provincial Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi, officials from the Higher Education Department, and other Senate members. Presentation of Annual Report and Review of Past Decisions

During the meeting, the University of Swat’s Annual Report for 2023–24 was presented. Authorities updated the Senate on the progress regarding decisions from previous sessions. The draft University Statutes for 2024 were discussed and sent to a specialized committee for further examination.

Strategic Plan 2024–30 and Scholarship Fund Expansion

The University’s Strategic Plan for 2024–30 was unveiled, with the Chief Minister instructing its submission to the Higher Education Department’s Task Force for refinement. He also emphasized the inclusion of all academic departments of public universities in scholarship programs, highlighting that the provincial government has substantially increased the scholarship fund to support more students.

Focus on Market-Relevant Academic Investment

Gandapur stressed the importance of investing more in university departments with large student populations and encouraged the promotion of academic disciplines aligned with current market demands.

Support for Graduates and Development Initiatives at University of Swat

The Chief Minister ordered a reserved quota for university graduates within the provincial government’s Ehsaas Rozgar Programme business loan schemes, stating that graduates are well-equipped to benefit from such initiatives. He also called for efforts to enhance Hotel Management studies at the University of Swat and recommended budget proposals for futsal facilities at ten universities in the coming fiscal year. Furthermore, he directed the construction of a guesthouse, auditorium, and indoor gymnasium in the girls’ hostel at the University of Swat.

University Performance Highlights and Rankings

The Vice-Chancellor provided an overview of the university’s recent performance, noting enrollment figures: 9,059 students in BS programs, 756 in MPhil and MS courses, and 315 PhD scholars. Additionally, more than 18,000 students are enrolled in colleges affiliated with the university. The University of Swat currently ranks 10th in the province according to Times Higher Education and has established partnerships with numerous national and international institutions.
