FDE Orders Temporary Closure of Educational Institutions

Federal Directorate of Education FDE has declared that all educational institutions operating under its supervision will remain closed for a period of two weeks, starting from March 16 and continuing until March 31, 2026. This decision has been taken as part of broader austerity steps and fuel-saving measures introduced by the government to manage energy resources more efficiently. Two-Week Shutdown Announced with Online Classes and Administrative Adjustments

According to an official notification released by the Academics Wing of the FDE, the directive follows instructions issued through a Cabinet Division notification dated March 9, 2026. The government has advised various departments to implement fuel conservation policies, and the temporary closure of educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education is part of these measures.

The notification clearly states that all schools, colleges, and other educational establishments administered by the FDE will remain closed during the announced period. Despite the suspension of regular classroom activities, important academic processes will continue as planned. Examination-related tasks will not be affected by the closure and will proceed according to the previously approved institutional schedules.

These academic activities include the conduct of examinations, the checking and evaluation of students’ answer sheets, and the preparation and compilation of examination results. This arrangement ensures that students’ academic progress and assessment timelines remain uninterrupted despite the temporary shutdown of campuses.

In addition, the FDE has directed that all classes for BS degree programs will immediately transition to an online mode of teaching. Universities and institutions offering BS programs under the FDE will continue delivering lectures and academic activities through virtual platforms until further instructions are issued by the authorities.

The notification also includes administrative guidelines for institutional management during this period. Heads of institutions have been instructed to introduce work-from-home arrangements for a portion of their administrative workforce. Up to 50 percent of the administrative staff may work remotely on an alternating day schedule. However, the directive emphasizes that essential administrative duties must continue without disruption so that the operational functions of institutions remain effective.

Through these steps, the Federal Directorate of Education aims to contribute to the national effort of conserving fuel and resources while ensuring that essential academic and administrative activities proceed smoothly.
