The Times Higher Education THE World University Rankings 2026 have been officially announced, featuring 2,191 universities from 115 countries and territories. Recognized globally as one of the most credible and comprehensive ranking systems, THE continues to serve as a for students, educators, policymakers, and academic institutions worldwide. This year, Pakistan has achieved a notable milestone, with 99 universities participating in the rankings. Out of these, 48 institutions have earned ranked positions, while the remaining universities have been listed under “Reporter” status—indicating their inclusion in the assessment process though not formally ranked.

Among the top-ranked Pakistani institutions, Quaid-i-Azam University leads with a position in the 401–500 range, followed by universities such as NUST, COMSATS University Islamabad, Government College University Faisalabad, Air University, and Bahauddin Zakariya University, all placed between 601–800. Other prominent universities, including LUMS, University of the Punjab, GIKI, IIUI, and UET Taxila, are featured in the 801–1000 category.

For the first time, Iqra University has entered the global rankings, securing 10th place nationally among Pakistani universities. The institution’s strong performance across multiple indicators—especially in Research Quality and International Outlook—reflects its growing academic reputation and international collaboration.

Globally, the University of Oxford continues its reign as the world’s top-ranked university for the tenth consecutive year, owing to its excellence in research and teaching. Princeton University reached its highest-ever position, tying for third place, while China has expanded its presence with five universities in the top 40. Hong Kong also achieved a record by placing six institutions among the world’s top 200.

In a remarkable development, India has become the second most-represented country in the 2026 rankings after the United States—marking a significant rise in the global higher education landscape.

Overall, Pakistan’s growing representation in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 demonstrates steady progress in academic quality, research output, and international competitiveness.
