UHS Introduces Faculty Councils to Improve Teaching, Research Standards
The University of Health Sciences UHS has launched Discipline-Specific Faculty Councils DSFCs to provide a formal platform for faculty members from its main campus, affiliated, and constituent colleges. This initiative is designed to elevate teaching quality, encourage research activities, and refine assessment systems. Discipline-Specific Councils to Drive Professional Development and Collaboration
Under this new structure, each council will arrange professional development programs within its respective field. The first seminar, "Updates in Physiology Research,” was organized on Tuesday by the UHS Physiology Department.
UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore inaugurated the event, accompanied by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nadia Naseem and Physiology Department Head Prof. Uzma Zargham. The session welcomed about 50 participants from affiliated medical colleges. Key speakers included Dr. Sundus Tariq, Associate Professor at the International School of Medicine in Istanbul, Türkiye, and Prof. Mohsin Ali Cheema, Vice Principal of Narowal Medical College.
UHS stated that over 5,000 faculty members representing more than 100 institutions of medicine, dentistry, nursing, and allied health sciences will be part of these councils. Each DSFC will be chaired by the senior-most professor of its discipline and will meet monthly.
Prof. Rathore emphasized that these councils will strengthen coordination between UHS and its affiliates. He further shared that 19 seminars are planned across multiple disciplines by mid-September, with additional events lined up for the academic year.
