Uok Rejects HEC’s Decision To Abolish 2 Years Degree Progr

The Higher Education Commission HEC, Islamabad has officially directed all higher educational institutions across the Pakistan to discontinue the 2 years degree program. The HEC further directs to start Associate Degree in all colleges and universities instead. It is recently reported that Karachi University has rejected the decision of HEC to cancel the 2 years degree program.

The VICE Chancellor Karachi University KU, Professor Dr. Khalid Iraqi Said:

“The university has presented the HEC’s decision to its Academic Council that rejected the decision twice”

The Commission of the KU will call a meeting of 187 public and private universities around the Pakistan on this matter. The meeting will foresee the revised decision and will foreword a letter to HEC chairman.

The KU has already sent the summarized points of the issue to Sindh Board and the government of Sindh as well. According to the Acting Director of Karachi University:

“Karachi University has 70,000 students enrolled in the two-year degrees and MA programs, including private students”.

According to Karachi University, the decision taken by HEC is no applicable immediately because universities may face financial crises.
