University of Alabama Offers Pakistani Students Scholarships Worth Up to $19,000

Pakistani students planning to begin undergraduate studies in the United States in 2027 have an opportunity to compete for the Academic Elite Scholarship at The University of Alabama.

The scholarship is awarded through the university’s Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program and provides a combination of tuition support, first-year on-campus housing and annual supplemental funding.

The University of Alabama selects eight students each year from the Witt University Fellows cohort for Academic Elite Scholarships. Seven selected students receive a $9,000 annual supplemental scholarship, while one student is named the Top Academic Elite Scholar and receives $9,000 in the first year followed by $19,000 per year during the next three years.

The university says the Academic Elite Scholarship is awarded for four years, subject to the student maintaining membership in the Witt University Fellows Program.

University of Alabama Academic Elite Scholarship 2027

Who Can Apply for the Scholarship?

Pakistani students can compete for the scholarship as international first-time freshman applicants. However, they must meet the eligibility requirements for the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program.

For automatic eligibility to apply for the Witt University Fellows Program, a first-time entering freshman admitted to The University of Alabama must have:

At least a 3.5 high school GPA
A minimum non-superscored ACT score of 32, or
A minimum SAT score of 1420

Students who do not meet these automatic eligibility requirements can still apply through an alternative route if they have at least a 29 ACT or 1330 SAT, provided they obtain an endorsement from a high school representative or University of Alabama faculty member.

The university also requires Witt Fellows to be accepted into the Honors College. Students should therefore complete the Honors College application before or at the same time as the Witt University Fellows application.

University of Alabama Scholarship Selection Process

The selection process is not based only on grades and standardized test scores.

The University of Alabama states that the Witt University Fellows selection committee also considers factors such as:

Leadership achievements
Community involvement
Extracurricular activities
Creativity
Academic achievements
Essays
Productivity
Personal growth
Impact on the community

For the 2027 cohort, the university expects more than 1,500 admitted students to be eligible to apply for the Witt University Fellows Program. The university plans to select approximately 100 semifinalists for interviews, followed by approximately 50 finalists who will be invited to the finalist interview weekend in February 2027.

After the Witt University Fellows cohort is selected, eight students are chosen for the Academic Elite Scholarship: seven Academic Elite Scholars and one Top Academic Elite Scholar.

English Language Requirements for Pakistani Students

Pakistani applicants who are required to demonstrate English proficiency must meet The University of Alabamas applicable international student requirements.

The university lists the following minimum scores for international students:

IELTS: 6.0
PTE Academic: 54
Duolingo English Test: 110
TOEFL iBT: 79
TOEFL Essentials: 8.5

Applicants should check the universitys current international admissions requirements before submitting their application because English proficiency requirements and related academic support requirements can vary by score and applicant circumstances.

Students with lower section scores may also be required to take English language support courses after enrollment, even when they meet the overall admission requirement.

University of Alabama Admission Deadline for Fall 2027

Students targeting Summer or Fall 2027 admission should pay close attention to the universitys December 4, 2026 priority deadline.

The University of Alabama currently lists December 4, 2026 as the Summer/Fall 2027 priority deadline for freshman admissions. Official test scores and other required supporting materials should also be submitted according to the universitys applicable deadline requirements.

The separate Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program application deadline is December 8, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Because the scholarship application depends on admission and Honors College eligibility, students should begin the process well before the deadlines rather than waiting until the final days.

How Pakistani Students Can Apply

Pakistani students interested in the Academic Elite Scholarship should follow the universitys admission and scholarship process carefully.

Step 1: Apply for Undergraduate Admission

First, submit an undergraduate freshman admission application to The University of Alabama. The university accepts applications through its undergraduate application and the Common App.

Students should provide the required academic information, transcripts and any test scores needed for their admission or scholarship consideration.

Step 2: Apply to the Honors College

Eligible high-achieving applicants should complete the University of Alabama Honors College application.

Acceptance into the Honors College is required for students who become Witt University Fellows.

Step 3: Apply for the Witt University Fellows Program

Once eligible, students can submit the separate Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program application.

The 2027 application opened on September 9, 2026, and the deadline is December 8, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Applicants should prepare their essays, résumé and other required information in advance.

Step 4: Complete Scholarship Requirements

Students should ensure that all admission, Honors College and Witt University Fellows requirements have been completed before the relevant deadlines.

Being eligible to apply does not guarantee selection. The Witt University Fellows Program uses a competitive selection process that considers both academic and non-academic achievements.

Important Points About the $19,000 Scholarship

The headline figure of $19,000 per year applies specifically to the student selected as the Top Academic Elite Scholar.

It does not mean that every Pakistani student selected for the Academic Elite Scholarship will receive $19,000 annually.

The seven other Academic Elite Scholars receive a $9,000 annual supplemental scholarship for four years, in addition to the four-year tuition award and first-year on-campus housing included in the scholarship package.

For the Top Academic Elite Scholar, the supplemental award is $9,000 in the first year and $19,000 in each of Years 2, 3 and 4. The student can also receive the separate one-time $5,000 allowance for research or international study after completing one year at the university.

The university also notes that Academic Elite Scholarships cannot simply be combined with previously awarded merit scholarship packages; students receive whichever eligible package has the higher value under the universitys scholarship rules.

Is the University of Alabama Scholarship Open to Pakistani Students?

Yes. Pakistani students can apply as international first-time freshmen if they meet the universitys admission and Witt University Fellows eligibility requirements.

However, students should understand that the Academic Elite Scholarship is highly competitive. Meeting the minimum GPA and SAT/ACT requirements makes a student eligible to apply for the Witt program but does not guarantee selection.

Academic performance, leadership, community involvement, extracurricular activities, essays and personal achievements are also considered during the selection process.
