UK Offers Scholarships & Technical Training Support for Pakistani Madrassa




The United Kingdom has announced its support to help Pakistan provide modern technical education and skills training to students enrolled in religious seminaries madrassas. The offer was made by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during her meeting with Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf. During the discussion, Sardar Yousaf highlighted Pakistan’s rich cultural traditions, religious diversity, and commitment to inclusive values, expressing that Pakistan deeply values its partnership with the UK and is eager to enhance cooperation in education and social development.

British High Commissioner Proposes Educational Collaboration with Pakistan’s Religious Affairs Ministry

The minister also voiced concern over the increasing state-backed persecution of Muslims and other minorities in India, while emphasizing that Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, and other faith communities in Pakistan are an integral part of the country’s social fabric. He added that Pakistan continues to take significant steps to promote minority inclusion and interfaith harmony across various sectors.

Sardar Yousaf further mentioned that with around 2 million Muslims and 1.7 million Hindus living in the UK, both countries have valuable opportunities to share experiences and collaborate on interfaith initiatives.

In response, Jane Marriott offered the UK’s support for introducing exchange programs and scholarships for madrassa graduates. She noted that Pakistan has over 18,000 registered madrassas, and there is a growing need to equip their students with modern education and technical skills. Marriott also praised the Prime Ministers Youth Program, which is already helping integrate madrassa students into modern vocational training.

Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation aimed at combating extremism and promoting interfaith understanding between the two nations.
