UHS Implements MDCAT Requirement for DPT and Allied Health Science Admissions

University of Health Sciences Punjab has announced the mandatory inclusion of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test MDCAT for admission into four and five-year undergraduate degree programs in Allied Health Sciences AHS. This decision will apply to programs such as BSc Hons. and Doctor of Physical Therapy DPT. The merit calculation for these programs will follow the same weightage criteria used for MBBS and BDS admissions, with 50 percent weightage given to MDCAT scores, 40 percent to Intermediate results, and 10 percent to Matriculation marks. The candidates can know that UHS Implements MDCAT Requirement for DPT and Allied Health Science Admissions.

Following the declaration of the MDCAT results, admissions for these programs will be immediately opened, and classes across all institutions will commence on January 15. The 25th meeting of the Board of Studies in Allied Health Sciences, chaired by Professor Saqib Mahmood, the head of UHS Institute of Allied Health Sciences, endorsed these decisions. Principals and representatives from 34 affiliated institutions also participated in the meeting.

To enhance the international acceptability of Pakistani nurses and paramedics and improve job prospects, the Board has decided to introduce English language proficiency courses, including IELTS, into the curricula. Additionally, the transition of undergraduate AHS programs to the semester system has been approved. The board members unanimously agreed to incorporate skill-based components into the curricula of the four-year BSc Hons. and five-year undergraduate programs. Sub-committees have been established to revise the curricula accordingly, with the undergraduate programs scheduled to transition to the semester system from the upcoming session.

During the meeting, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the Vice Chancellor of UHS, highlighted the significance of the field of allied health sciences, which had been overlooked in the past. He emphasized the historical importance of the Allied Health Professionals Council Act 2022, as it would regulate the sector and enhance the quality of practice. Professor Rathore further stated that the university and its affiliated institutions would offer only those programs included in the Act.

The implementation of the MDCAT requirement for DPT and Allied Health Science admissions, along with the introduction of English language proficiency courses and the shift to the semester system, marks a significant step forward for UHS in enhancing the quality and relevance of these programs. These changes aim to produce competent healthcare professionals who can excel both nationally and internationally while providing improved opportunities for professional growth and development.
