Students to Get Full Marks on Leaked Cambridge Papers
A subcommittee of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education has voiced strong concerns over Cambridge Assessment International Education’s CAIE handling of the recent paper leak scandal involving O and A Level exams. The session, chaired by MNA Sabheen Ghoury, took place on Monday and focused on reviewing CIE’s investigation into the matter. Parliamentary Subcommittee Unhappy with Cambridge’s Response to Exam Leak
During the briefing, CIE representatives — including Country Director Uzma Yousuf — acknowledged that three exam papers were partially leaked. Specifically, one question from AS & A Level Mathematics Paper 12, segments from two questions in Paper 42, and part of one question from Computer Science Paper 22 were circulated before the scheduled exams. However, officials claimed that there was no proof of full paper leaks.
In response, CAIE has decided to grant full marks to all students for the compromised questions. Despite this, the subcommittee remained unsatisfied with the explanation, expressing frustration over the lack of accountability and absence of details on how the breach occurred or who was responsible.
MNA Ghoury emphasized the need for fairness and transparency, stressing that student concerns must be addressed. She urged Cambridge to actively engage with students and their parents before the next scheduled meeting on June 30. While she clarified that mass retakes are not ideal, she also insisted that any student choosing to retake an exam in October should not be charged. The subcommittee will present its full recommendations to the main education committee soon.
