Sindh Upgraded Schools to Become Fully Operational

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the School Education Department to ensure that newly upgraded schools across the province become fully operational by April 2, 2027.
The directive was issued during a review meeting on the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project SSEIP at the Chief Ministers House in Karachi. The meeting reviewed progress on school infrastructure, the availability of essential facilities and efforts to increase enrollment among children who are currently out of school.
Murad Ali Shah instructed officials to make sure that schools scheduled for completion by March 2027 are ready to receive students without delays. This includes arranging furniture, teachers and other essential requirements before the April 2 deadline.
SSEIP and SELECT Projects Cover 1,133 Schools
The SSEIP and SELECT programs are currently covering a total of 1,133 schools across Sindh.
Of these, 838 schools are being covered under SSEIP, while another 295 schools are part of the SELECT program.
According to officials, work on 552 schools is expected to be completed by December 2026, while the number is expected to reach 801 schools by March 2027. The overall completion target for the wider program has been set for December 2027.
The chief minister emphasized that completing construction or upgradation alone would not be enough. Schools must also have the required teaching staff, furniture and other basic facilities so that students can properly benefit from the upgraded institutions.
Enrollment Drive to Target Out-of-School Children
Alongside the infrastructure improvements, the Sindh government is also focusing on bringing children who are out of school or have ped out back into education.
The chief minister directed the Education Department to expand an enrollment campaign that was initially launched as a pilot initiative in five upgraded secondary schools in Thatta.
The campaign used community-level outreach to identify children who were not attending school and encourage families to enroll them in nearby schools.
Teams visited feeder schools, residential areas and villages as part of the campaign. The outreach included visits to 116 feeder schools, 17 neighborhoods and 23 villages, as well as door-to-door engagement with families.
702 Students Enrolled During Pilot Campaign
The nine-day pilot enrollment campaign in Thatta produced a total enrollment of 702 students in Classes VI to X.
Girls accounted for a significant portion of the new admissions, with 409 girls enrolled during the campaign.
The campaign also helped bring 102 out-of-school or out children back into education, according to officials who briefed the meeting.
The results of the pilot prompted the chief minister to direct the Education Department to extend the enrollment campaign to other parts of Sindh rather than limiting the initiative to the original pilot schools.
Focus on Girls and School outs
Murad Ali Shah directed officials to give particular attention to girls and children who have ped out of school when expanding the enrollment campaign.
The government plans to use community outreach to identify children who are not currently attending school and encourage their families to take advantage of the upgraded educational facilities.
The emphasis on girls is also intended to ensure that improvements in school infrastructure translate into greater access to secondary education for female students.
The chief minister instructed officials to expand the campaign throughout Sindh and maintain an active connection with communities to identify children who remain outside the education system.
Transparent School Management Framework Ordered
The chief minister also ordered the Education Department to finalize a transparent framework for managing the upgraded schools.
The framework is intended to establish a clear system for managing schools after their upgradation and ensuring that the facilities and resources provided through the development programs are properly utilized.
The directives come as Sindh continues work on the SSEIP and SELECT programs, with hundreds of schools expected to reach completion during the coming months.
With the April 2, 2027 operational deadline for schools scheduled to be completed by March, the provincial government is seeking to ensure that newly upgraded institutions are equipped and ready for students rather than remaining unused after construction work is finished.
