Sindh to Launch Watermarking to Trace Paper Leaks
In a decisive move to protect the integrity of the education sector, the Sindh government has announced the implementation of a modern watermarking system for the upcoming board examinations. This initiative aims to provide a robust technical shield against the recurring issue of exam paper leaks, allowing authorities to trace the origin of any compromised document instantly.
Strengthening Board Exams Transparency
The announcement was made by the Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, during a high-level meeting held on March 27, 2026. The Minister emphasized that the Sindh Education Department will not tolerate any negligence. To ensure a transparent examination process, the unique watermarking on each paper will act as a digital fingerprint, identifying exactly which examination center or official was responsible if a leak occurs.
Key Features of the New System:
- Immediate Tracing: Every question paper will carry unique identifiers.
- E-marking Integration: Several divisions, including Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad, will shift entirely to e-marking systems for faster and more accurate results.
- Digital Vigilance: A provincial-level complaint cell is being established at the Secretary of Boards office to monitor the vigilance teams in real-time.
Massive Student Participation in 2026
Across the province, a staggering 1,353,258 students from grades 9 to 12 are set to appear for their annual assessments starting next month. To accommodate this massive cohort, more than 1,600 examination centers have been established.
The schedule for the 2026 session is as follows:
- Karachi: Grades 9 and 10 will begin on April 7, while Grades 11 and 12 start on April 25.
- Sukkur Division: Examinations for secondary classes will commence as early as March 30.
- Larkana: The board will pilot e-marking for eight specific papers across various grades.
Strict Anti-Cheating Measures
Beyond technical upgrades, the government is enforcing strict physical security. Section 144 will be imposed around all centers to prevent unauthorized gatherings, and a complete ban on mobile phones remains in effect for both students and staff. Minister Rahoo has warned that if any paper leak is detected, strict disciplinary action will be taken directly against the Chairman of the concerned board.
To support students during the high-pressure period, the government has also coordinated with utility providers like K-Electric and HESCO to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply, ensuring that the focus remains solely on academic performance.
