Sindh to Expand 4-Year BS Programs in More Public Colleges
The Sindh government has announced plans to roll out four-year Bachelor of Studies BS programs in 164 more government colleges across the province as part of an effort to make higher education more accessible and affordable. Through this move, students will be able to enroll in Science, Commerce, Arts, and Computer Science degree programs at nearby public colleges with minimal fees, helping them avoid the expense and inconvenience of traveling to distant universities.
The Sindh Colleges Department has initiated the formal process of affiliating selected colleges with public-sector universities so they can offer BS degrees. Out of 376 government colleges in Sindh, 164 institutions have applied for university affiliation under this scheme.
Speaking to private news channel, Sindh Secretary for Colleges Nadeem ur Rehman said that 55 colleges are currently running BS programs, while five additional colleges in Karachi received affiliation this year, bringing the total to 60.
He further stated that approvals for BS programs in another 159 colleges are expected shortly, with affiliation requests to more universities still under review.
Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed to strengthen undergraduate education at the local level and allow more students to pursue higher studies within their own cities and districts.
