Sindh Launches Dedicated Transport Service for Female Students
In a major move to boost female literacy and safety, the Government of Sindh has officially announced the launch of a route-based rental transport facility. This initiative specifically targets girls enrolled in secondary schools and higher secondary institutions across the province. By addressing the critical barrier of "distance to school," the School Education and Literacy Department SELD aims to significantly reduce the out rate among young women in rural areas.
Addressing Safety and Accessibility
The lack of secure commuting options has long been identified as a primary reason for low enrollment in the Sindh education sector. Under this new program, the government will provide reliable transport routes to ensure students reach their campuses safely. This service is expected to:
- Empower Students: Provide door-to-step connectivity for girls in underserved regions.
- Support Teachers: Facilitate the daily commute of female faculty members to remote schools.
- Ease Parental Concerns: Address security anxieties that often lead to early school withdrawals.
First Phase: High-Priority Districts
The program is being rolled out in phases, with the initial launch focusing on seven districts identified with the highest out rates. These include:
- Umerkot and Badin: Key focus areas for rural educational development.
- Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad: Targeted for infrastructure and mobility upgrades.
- Jamshoro, Ghotki, and Malir: Selected due to geographical challenges and transport gaps.
