Sindh Introduces New Grading Policy & Raises Passing Marks for Students
The Sindh Universities and Boards Department has approved a new grading policy for students of classes 9 to 12, which will take effect from the next academic year. Under this new policy, the minimum passing marks have been raised from 33% to 40%, marking a significant shift in the province’s education assessment system. Revised System Replaces Traditional Marking with Grades and Sets 40% as Minimum Passing Score
In place of the traditional marking method, results will now be presented through a comprehensive grade-based system. Students scoring between 50% and 59% will receive a D grade, while those earning 60% to 69% will get a C. Scores from 70% to 74% will qualify for a B grade, 75% to 79% for a B+, and 80% to 84% for a B++.
High-achieving students will be awarded top grades: 85% to 89% will correspond to an A grade, and 90% to 94% will earn an A+. The highest bracket, 95% to 100%, will also fall within the A+ range, offering dual recognition for exceptional performance.
According to the department, this new system aims to promote fairness and reduce stress among students while aligning Sindh’s education standards with international grading practices. Officials believe this will make it easier for students to meet global academic requirements when applying to foreign universities.
All education boards in Sindh will implement the new grading policy simultaneously, and awareness programs will be launched to guide teachers, parents, and students through the transition before it comes into effect next year.
