Sindh Education Department Plans Hindu Religious Textbooks for School Students

Sindh Education and Literacy Department has decided to introduce specially prepared religious textbooks for Hindu students studying in grades 3 to 5 in government schools across Sindh, according to reports received on Thursday. The students can get the latest information of Sindh Education Department Plans Hindu Religious Textbooks for School Students.
In an official letter dated April 29, addressed to the chairman of the Sindh Textbook Board, the education department requested the provision of three religious books for students from Grade III to Grade V for the academic session 2026–27. This request follows a resolution made during the Executive Committee meeting of the Sindh Curriculum Council held on April 20.
Chief Executive Advisor Dr. Fauzia Khan stated in the correspondence that the printing expenses for these books will be covered by a welfare organisation, Prem Sagar Sanstha Karachi, for the current academic year. The letter further instructed that the distribution of these textbooks will be managed through the Sindh Textbook Board. It also asked the board to make arrangements for budgeting and future allocation for printing these books in the upcoming academic year.
This initiative aligns with a similar step taken by the federal government in 2023, when the National Curriculum Council NCC issued no-objection certificates for publishing religious education materials for students belonging to seven minority faith groups studying in federally administered institutions.
The NCC approved the publication of textbooks covering multiple religions, including Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, Baha’i faith, Zoroastrianism, Kalasha traditions, and Buddhism.
A research study conducted by the Centre for Social Justice CSJ revealed a possible connection between biased or exclusionary content in textbooks and increasing levels of social intolerance toward religious and sectarian minority groups in the country. The study also pointed out that the presence of inclusive religious content in educational material remains relatively limited across various textbook boards.
