Sindh Considers Adjusting Winter Vacation Schedule for Schools

Sindh Considers Adjusting Winter Vacation Schedule for Schools

The Sindh Education and Literacy Department is reviewing a plan to reschedule winter vacations for schools starting from the 2026–27 academic session. Officials noted that shifting the break to January may better align with the peak of colder weather in the province. The students can get latest updates of Sindh Considers Adjusting Winter Vacation Schedule for Schools.

Reason for the Change

In recent years, December has generally seen milder temperatures, while January experiences harsher winter conditions. Under the current schedule, schools close in late December and reopen on January 1, forcing students to attend classes during the coldest days.

Next Steps for Approval

The department will submit the proposal to the Education Department Steering Committee for formal consideration. If approved, all schools in Sindh, including those in Karachi, will observe winter vacations in January rather than at the end of December.

Temporary Measures in the Current Year

During the current academic year, the department implemented short-term adjustments when cold conditions intensified after schools reopened. With approval from Sardar Shah, school start times were temporarily shifted to 9 a.m. in January to reduce the impact of the cold on students.
