Sindh Announces Two Day Weekly Holiday for Schools

Sindh Announces Two Day Weekly Holiday for Schools

In a significant move to combat rising energy costs, the Sindh Government has officially implemented a two-day weekly holiday for all educational institutions. Starting April 1, 2026, schools, colleges, and universities across the province will remain closed on both Saturdays and Sundays. This policy change is a direct response to the global energy crisis fueled by Middle East tensions, aiming to provide a sustainable solution for the education sector in Sindh.

Fuel Conservation and Austerity Measures

The decision to transition to a five-day workweek Monday to Friday is rooted in the "National Resource Conservation" strategy. By eliminating Saturday classes, the government expects a substantial reduction in:
  • Transportation Costs: Lowering fuel consumption for school buses and private vehicles.
  • Utility Expenses: Reducing electricity and water usage in large campus facilities.
  • Operational Overheads: Minimizing the daily running costs of public and private institutions.

Resumption of Physical Classes

This announcement comes exactly as physical classes resume following a brief period of online learning. Students returning to campus for the new academic year will now enjoy a full weekend. Educators believe this two-day weekly holiday will help teachers better prepare for the week ahead, though curriculum planners are currently adjusting schedules to ensure no learning loss occurs during the condensed five-day week.

Parents and students should note that this schedule is effective immediately. All Sindh schools and colleges are expected to comply with the new timings while maintaining the standard credit hours required for the 2026 session.
