Revisions to Undergraduate Curriculum: Pak Studies No Longer Mandatory

Higher Education Commission Pakistan has brought about a significant change in its undergraduate policy by removing the mandatory status of Pakistan Studies from the curriculum. The students can get updates of Revisions to Undergraduate Curriculum: Pak Studies No Longer Mandatory.

Commencing with the 2023 academic scheme, BA, BSc, and all honors degree programs will no longer require students to undertake Pakistan Studies as part of their coursework.

This decision has sparked diverse reactions within academic circles. Representatives from the Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association and Dr. Amjad Magsi, the General Secretary of the Punjab University Academic Staff Association, have voiced their concerns. They highlighted the long-standing inclusion of Pakistan Studies in the graduate-level curriculum, emphasizing that its replacement with another subject could raise sensitive issues related to national sentiments. The academic figures urged the HEC to reconsider its decision and reinstate Pakistan Studies as a compulsory subject for undergraduates.
