Rawalpindi Parents Protest Earlier School Timings in Harsh Winter
Parents in Rawalpindi have strongly objected to the administration’s decision to move school start times one hour earlier at the height of winter. The revised schedule was introduced as part of a traffic control plan around Kachehri Chowk, where major construction projects, including an underpass and overhead bridge, are currently underway. Families Urge Administration to Restore Previous Morning Schedule
Dozens of parents submitted a written request to the Deputy Commissioner, calling for the restoration of the previous school timings of 8:45 or 9:00 a.m. They argued that sending children out before sunrise in freezing temperatures and heavy fog exposes them to a higher risk of fever, cough, cold and ear infections.
Parents also highlighted the shortage of school vans and public transport early in the morning, which has caused problems with attendance and punctuality. Teachers and families noted that students are struggling to reach school safely and that the cold mornings and reduced rest are starting to impact their classroom performance.
Parents warned that if the administration does not revisit the timing change, they may shift their children to nearby private schools. They urged officials to adjust government office hours instead of altering school schedules during extreme winter conditions.
