Punjab Winter Break Extension and Exam Postponement

In response to the severe cold weather conditions prevailing in Punjab, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has declared an extra week-long winter break for students up to grade 1. This decision comes as a measure to address the challenging climate and its impact on the well-being of young learners. The students can check the fresh information of Punjab Winter Break Extension & Exam Postponement.
Postponement of Exams after Child Deaths
In light of numerous reported cases of pneumonia-related deaths among children in the province, Chief Minister Naqvi has directed the postponement of all exams initially scheduled for this month. This move aims to prioritize the health and safety of students, considering the adverse effects of the prevailing cold weather.
Closure of Schools and Alarming Pneumonia Rates
During an emergency meeting held at the Children’s Hospital in Lahore, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that eight out of every 10 children are currently suffering from pneumonia. As a preventive measure, schools across Punjab will remain closed for an additional week. Notably, a significant number of the deceased children are infants below six months old, further underscoring the severity of the situation.
Previous Statement on Winter Holidays
Contrary to an earlier announcement earlier in the week, where Naqvi had stated that there would be no further extensions to winter holidays for schools and colleges in Punjab, the recent decision to add an extra week to the break reflects the evolving circumstances and the need for immediate actions to address the health concerns of the student population.
