Punjab Wants to Ban Student Mobile Phones in Schools
The Punjab Assembly has received a new resolution seeking to prohibit students in both government and private schools from using mobile phones during school hours. Hussain raised alarms over the negative impact of mobile phones and social media on childrens mental health and moral upbringing. She stressed that it is the states duty to ensure the proper psychological, ethical, and social development of young people, who are the future of the nation.
Assembly Resolution Highlights Concerns Over Impact of Technology on Youth Development
In her resolution, she stated that the current digital age is contributing to serious cognitive and moral challenges among children. To address these growing concerns, the resolution calls on the government to act promptly and develop a robust strategy to counter this trend.
As an initial measure, it suggests implementing a province-wide ban on mobile phone use by students during school hours. The resolution also advocates for new legislation to restrict minors access to social media in an effort to protect them from inappropriate digital exposure and distractions.
If approved, the resolution could lead to significant changes in the use of technology within Punjab’s educational system, marking a shift toward more controlled digital engagement in schools.
