Punjab to Introduce First Official University Ranking System
The Punjab government has announced plans to launch its first-ever official university ranking system aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of higher education across the province. Government Plans New Initiative to Improve Higher Education Standards
As per official sources, the new initiative will assess the performance of over 60 public and private universities in Punjab, highlighting the top 10 institutions based on key performance and quality criteria.
This is the first structured ranking framework for universities in the province. The ranking system will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 million, with the PC-1 of the project already completed and awaiting final approval.
Officials confirmed that the ranking will become an annual feature, updated each year in accordance with the universities’ academic and administrative performance. The outcomes will also help shape funding priorities and policy decisions for higher education institutions.
A government representative explained that this ranking initiative is designed to foster academic excellence, encourage healthy competition, and ensure transparency across all universities in Punjab.
