Punjab Sets New Summer Leave Rules for Medical College Faculty

Punjab Sets New Summer Leave Rules for Medical College Faculty

The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department of Punjab has issued a fresh directive regarding summer vacations for teaching faculty in medical institutions. The updated policy is scheduled to come into effect from August 1, 2025, as per an official notification released by the department. The students can get the latest updates of Punjab Sets New Summer Leave Rules for Medical College Faculty.

Summer Vacation Policy Announced for Medical Teaching Staff in Punjab

The department clarified that public health services are ongoing and indispensable, especially in tertiary care hospitals affiliated with medical colleges, which play a vital role in delivering treatment and patient care. As a result, the summer vacation plan is designed to ensure that academic activities do not interfere with the functioning of healthcare services.

According to the notification, faculty members are permitted to take academic leave, but it must be managed in a way that does not hinder clinical operations. The policy stresses that the vacation period is a privilege rather than a guaranteed right. Under this new framework, summer break will be limited to three weeks and will be subtracted from the faculty’s earned leave balance.

This policy is applicable to all ranks of faculty, including Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Registrars, and Demonstrators working in public sector medical colleges and their associated teaching hospitals throughout Punjab.

To ensure smooth operations during the summer break, institutions must maintain a certain number of staff on duty. Specifically, 67% of clinical faculty and 50% of basic sciences faculty are required to remain present during the leave rotation. Additionally, every institution must establish a Leave Management Committee, comprising the Principal, CEO/COO/MD, Medical Superintendent, and senior departmental heads, to oversee and approve vacation schedules.
