The Punjab government has officially addressed the viral reports regarding a further extension of school holidays across the province. Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, issued a clear statement on Tuesday to dismantle the growing confusion among students, parents, and academic staff caused by unverified social media posts.

Official Stance on Academic Schedule Uncertainty

As of March 25, 2026, the Minister clarified that no final decision has been made to extend the current spring break beyond the existing schedule. While acknowledging the publics anxiety, he urged citizens to rely strictly on verified announcements from the School Education Department rather than "fake news" circulating on digital platforms.

"Public should not trust unconfirmed news or unofficial sources. We will communicate any changes through our official government channels," the Minister emphasized.

Proposed Extension Until April 15

The wave of rumors stems from a high-level proposal currently under review by provincial authorities. Due to ongoing energy-related challenges and global fuel supply disruptions, the Punjab Energy Department has recommended extending school closures until April 15, 2026.

This proposal aims to:

Conserve electricity and reduce the load on the provincial power grid.
Minimize fuel consumption by reducing daily commutes for millions of students and faculty.
Manage resources effectively during the current regional economic pressures.

Shift Toward a Hybrid Learning Model

To ensure that the academic calendar remains on track despite potential physical closures, officials are discussing the implementation of a hybrid learning model. This system would blend in-person classes with online education, allowing students to continue their syllabus from home if physical attendance remains suspended.

The government is also weighing other conservation measures, such as fuel rationing and reducing market hours, to combat the deepening energy crisis.
