Punjab Introduces Faith-Based Curricula for Various Religions

In a landmark decision to foster educational inclusion, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority PCTB has officially approved a separate religious curriculum for non-Muslim students. Starting from the 2026–27 academic session, this progressive policy ensures that minority students across the province can study their respective faiths as a dedicated subject. This historic move marks a significant shift toward a more equitable academic environment, affirming the governments commitment to respecting the diverse religious identities present within the student body.
Tailored Learning for Diverse Faith Communities
The newly introduced textbooks are specifically designed to align with the core beliefs of various communities, providing a structured learning experience for minority groups. The curriculum includes "Christian Education" for students from Grades 1 to 9 and 11 in all schools in Pakistan, while specialized subjects such as "Sanatan Dharma" for Hindu students and "Sikh Dharma" for Sikh students have been developed for Grades 1 to 3. Furthermore, the initiative introduces "Buddhism" and "Zoroastrianism" textbooks, alongside a pioneering "Kalasha Education" curriculum. By integrating these faith-based materials, the province is enhancing inclusive education standards and ensuring that student learning is both meaningful and reflective of personal beliefs. The students of all religions will study these books during their academic year and after that they will appear in their Punjab Boards matric class annual exams 2026.
Implementing Equitable Academic Standards
The implementation of this inclusive education policy is set for the upcoming academic year, with notifications already circulated to all educational boards and district authorities for nationwide enforcement. This systematic approach underscores a broader commitment to curriculum reform that prioritizes the needs of every student. By providing religious education that is tailored to diverse backgrounds, Punjab is setting a new precedent for diversity in education, ensuring that the academic journey is supportive, representative, and accessible for all, thereby strengthening the social fabric of the classroom and the province at large.
