Partnering with Australian firm Allied, Tech Valley UK, Canada, and Google for Education, the Punjab government plans to distribute Chromebooks and provide free Google IT training to 10,000 government school teachers and students. This announcement followed a meeting with a delegation led by Regional Head Paul Hutchings, which included prominent figures such as Google for Education’s Chris Hart, Haris Sufian, and Allied Corporation CEO Aaron Sether Jackson. Key Punjab officials, including Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, were also present. Provision of Chromebooks and IT Training

The initiative includes the assembly of Chromebooks in Punjab in collaboration with Australian firm Allied. CM of Punjab emphasized the projects importance, stating that it would bolster digital education efforts throughout the province. A total of 200 schools in Punjab will receive Chromebooks. Over 10,000 students and teachers will benefit from IT training supported by Google for Education. Additionally, government school teachers and university students will have access to various free digital certification courses. On UN Public Service Day, Maryam Nawaz reiterated her commitment to enhancing public service in Punjab, highlighting the governments dedication to improving service delivery.


Introduction of Digital School on Wheels

The Punjab government has also decided to launch a Digital School on Wheels project. Regional Head Paul Hutchings and his delegation expressed their support for this innovative initiative. Two pilot projects will be rolled out in the coming weeks, allowing students to study using their Google IDs. This will enable both teachers and students to access free education online.


Advancing Digital Education in Punjab

During the meeting, discussions focused on potential collaborations in digital education projects, smart classrooms, and the broader digital education ecosystem. Both sides agreed to seek technical support from Google for Education to gather accurate data on out-of-school children. Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat informed the Chief Minister that government school students in Punjab would be able to log in using Google IDs. University students will also receive certifications in areas such as antivirus and artificial intelligence, enhancing their global employment prospects.


Ensuring Monitoring and Security

With the deployment of Google Chromebooks, students will not need to download third-party applications, ensuring data security. The data used on Chromebooks can be monitored for academic and security purposes. The CM highlighted the potential of students, emphasizing the importance of providing technological resources to unlock their capabilities.


Collaboration and Future Prospects

The Google for Education delegation showed interest in the first autism school in Punjab. The meeting also addressed issues related to research and innovation in schools. Chief Minister briefed the Google team on Punjab’s IT initiatives aimed at enabling youth employment through IT certification programs. Paul Hutchings expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the Punjab government to improve access to online education. He praised the efforts of the CM and her team in steering Punjab’s education system towards innovation.
