Punjab Extends Winter Break for Non-Formal Schools

Closure Dates and Resumption of Classes
According to an official notification from the Directorate General of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, these schools will remain closed until January 17, 2026, with classes set to resume on January 19, 2026.
Scope of the Directive
The extension applies to all non-formal education institutions operating in Punjab. Officials have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to this notification.
Staff Responsibilities During the Break
The notification also clarifies that field staff are required to continue their official duties during the winter vacation and are not exempt from assigned responsibilities.
Official Communication and Implementation
Issued from Lahore, the notification has been circulated to deputy commissioners, district education authorities, literacy officers, and senior officials of the literacy and non-formal education department to ensure proper implementation.
Reason Behind the Extension
The decision comes in response to ongoing cold weather affecting multiple areas of the province. It aims to maintain administrative operations while temporarily pausing classroom activities in the non-formal education sector.
