Extreme Temperatures and Eid Holidays May Lead to Advance Summer Break
The expected increase in heat intensity, combined with upcoming Eid ul Adha holidays and weather warnings issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority PDMA, has led officials to consider closing schools for primary, middle class, 9th and 10th classes before the regular vacation schedule. In its recent advisory covering May, June, and July, the PDMA warned that temperatures in many districts are likely to stay higher than normal levels.
Reports suggest that Eid holidays may be observed from May 27 to May 29, while May 30 and 31 already fall on the weekend. Due to this overlap, the government is considering beginning summer vacations for the academic year from May 27 instead of the previously expected date of June 1 and the matric and inter classes annual exams will not be affected.
At the same time, Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed reducing the duration of future summer and winter vacations to compensate for academic losses and increase the total annual school days from 180 to 190.
Meanwhile, private educational institutions have requested permission to organize summer camps during the holidays between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. so students can continue limited academic learning despite the vacation period.
