Punjab Boards Significantly Hike Examination Fees

Punjab Boards Significantly Hike Examination Fees

Punjab’s education boards have substantially increased examination fees to address a major financial deficit, placing additional financial pressure on students preparing for board exams. The revised fee structure now includes a CCTV installation charge at examination centers and a Rs. 900 miscellaneous fee, while the certificate fee has risen from Rs. 550 to Rs. 1,000. New Charges for Students Spark Criticism

With these new charges and taxes applied, private candidates appearing in FA and FSc annual exams will pay Rs. 7,730, while regular students will be required to pay Rs. 7,570. The All Pakistan Private Schools Associations have strongly opposed the hike, arguing that it unfairly burdens students. Officials estimate that Punjab boards could collect up to Rs. 15 billion through the updated fees.

For intermediate annual exams beginning May 20, 2026, the detailed fee breakdown is as follows: admission fee Rs. 1,000, registration fee Rs. 1,000, processing fee Rs. 1,000, certificate fee Rs. 1,000, miscellaneous fee Rs. 900, CCTV fee Rs. 30, development charges Rs. 350, scholarship fee Rs. 250, and postal charges Rs. 300. The boards have set admission fees at Rs. 1,700 for regular arts students, Rs. 1,740 for regular science students, Rs. 1,800 for private arts students, and Rs. 1,900 for private science students.

Several leaders of private school associations, including Abrar Ahmed Khan, Irfan Muzaffar Kiani, and Malik Naseem Ahmed, criticized the increases. They highlighted that examination halls already have CCTV cameras, making the additional CCTV charge unnecessary, and called the Rs. 900 miscellaneous fee unjust. They also described the hikes in certificate and processing fees as excessive and burdensome for students.
